Waiting

We are waiting again.

It seems like it's just a thing we are always doing, right? Waiting. Waiting on our children to grow a tiny bit bigger so we can finally get the ever elusive sleep. Waiting on a phone call. Waiting on a test result. Waiting on a paycheck. Waiting.

Waiting requires a ridiculous amount of self-control for the Christian. As you wait, you exert said self-control by not complaining, worrying, taking matters into your own hands, scheming, plotting, devising. You're forced to, with your adult brain, become childlike in your faith. Coming to Jesus, you are needy and helpless... yet you trust that there will be a breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. There will continue to be sunrises (Lord willing) and a soft bed to collapse into each night. The details of larger pictures are far too large for you to really grasp so... you wait. You trust.

In my particular waiting my body rebels by manner of stomachaches, canker sores, chest pain, numbness. My body knows that worrying and fixing is what it should be doing. Yet, as Psalm 130 says, we wait. We become watchmen... and we wait. Wait while casting our anxieties on Him.

Each day, my text message app fills with prayer requests. So many friends are waiting, mourning, crying, needing. It feels far too big for me to handle... because it IS. I do my small part and take each thing to the Lord. Like the child with his lunch of loaves and fishes, offering his meager meal generously and then waiting and watching to see how the Lord would use it.

So... wait. Wait on the Lord as a small child, trusting He will do as He always has done. He will be faithful because He has always been faithful. He will provide because that is His character to provide.

Watch. Watch to see how the Lord moves. Watch to see how the Lord takes your meager fish and loaves and multiples it. Watch to see how the Lord stretches your faith and provides you with opportunities to go and tell what He has done. Watch to see how the Lord, once again, works in ways that only He can work.

Wait and watch.
